Horta doll is a unique doll from Indonesia that are packed as a medium of plants on its head or body. If you look at the shape of this dolls, it look as usual doll. Actually, it made by sawdust and grass seed and named "Horta". The name horta is taken from the word "horticulture".



 The founder of horta are seven students of Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) majoring in horticulture, under the guidance of Dr.Ir. Ni Made Armini Wiendy, MS. It's packed in interesting form such as frogs and turtles. This doll can be a learning medium for children. They can learn how to take a responsibility and concern about the plant. With simple maintenance, such as flush, fertilize, weed, pest, and place in the sun, Horta doll can survive up to three months. With around $500 they started to produce and got very positive responses.  

According to the paragraph above, the purpose of this doll is to teach your children to know better about nature and understand about its growing phases. But this doll is not only good for children but also for adult and old people. It can be a perfect gift for friends’ birthday, your boss, your parents, or you can keep it for yourself. Put in your office desk, bedroom, or just put it outside your home.

Horta dolls available in various form, you can choose what you like. There are cat, pig, cow, tiger, elephant, frog, etc. How to take care of this doll is very simple since all you have to do is watering it twice a day and there is no need to add fertilizers because it already has. In 3 to 4 days it will start to grow. This will lasts for 3 months and you can clean it up with a little brush when it is looked dirty. After three months the green grass will turn into yellow colour then ends in white colour but will not fall out from the doll, you may say this doll has died. You still can keep it as a garnish.
